Recreation, culture and history abound in the Western North Carolina county of Madison. In the winter you can ski, snowboard or tube at the ski slopes. Visit the town of Hot Springs, an outdoor enthusiast's paradise, with the Appalachian Trail, whitewater rafting and canoeing on the French Broad River. Then relax in North Carolina's only hot mineral baths. In Mars Hill, stop in at the Rural Life Museum on the Mars Hill College campus or take in a play at the Southern Appalachian Repertory Theatre. Mars Hill College remains true to its tradition of service, learning and leadership which has been a hallmark of the Mars Hill experience since 1856.

You can rent a canoe and float easy just below Hot Springs, or cool off in one of the many swimming holes. Madison County is home to numerous manufacturers, small businesses, and service people.
